Back in November I made a wedding pen for my MD. Not a great pen but both he and his wife appreciated the gift and it featured in a few photos of them signing the register. A guest on the day got in touch with me and asked if I would make one for his daughters wedding!!!!! I explained I was just starting out, but he told me he'd be happy with what I manage to make. I went for the Empress kit. It's very showy, but I'm not really sure about the quality?? I used imitation ivory with a wooden trim. C&C's welcome.

Ive made a few Empress pens all in different woods. They are a big showy pen but the quality is not great. If you are looking for a better quality pen try the Roman Harvest from Timberbits. Its similar in size to the Empress but made in solid brass with gold and rhodium platings and really does look the business. Ive just sold a Burr Elm one. I like the look of the faux ivory against the chrome.

Hi Craig good choice. TheRoman Harvest is a beautiful pen I made one in Faux Ivory but the the top part of the pen is wafer thick meaning a very careful drilling etc.

Yep, looks superb, but I agree with the quality of the Empress, not the best.

The Roman Harvest is a really good option if you want a bigger pen.

I have done a few of the Emporer pens, they are really good quality and nice pen. Large but nice.

Other good selection of fountain pens for weddings is the Mistral, TM Alpha, Dayacom Statesman and JR Gent II are equally good pens.

Do you use registrars ink in them?

I do agree about the quality of the empress. I have purchased a Mistral from Phil, to make a pen for myself and the difference in a quality kit really shows. I would prefer to use a quality kit and use a cast blank to suit, but as I'm still learning I couldn't justify spending money on a blank, in case I balls it up. I would also get a custom box, I just need to find a quality supplier:thinks::thinks::funny::funny:
