Are record tools not those made by Henry Taylor/Hamlet, they used to brand many tools for local suppliers under that shops own name as well.

Take a guess
My first set were Marples bought about 35 years ago for me by my dad, I have a few Sorby but now prefer Ashley Iles as I prefer to make my own handles & find their un-handled chisels very reasonably priced.

I have an assortment of tools from the major makers & don't really have a preference. When they are sharp they all do their jobs & anyway the tools are only as good as me, better in some other hands. I buy mostly unhandled tools & a mate makes me alloy handles so they are built for my own comfort. One tool I do like is Flexcut carving tools, the edge is exceptional.

There isn't a selection for Snap On Jim? oh sorry, wrong forum.. :goesred:

I have a mixed bag of turning tools but the one I probably use most is the sorby 1/2 skew. But really like the 1/2 Ashley bowl gouge. :thinks:

Just named as Other, nuff people vote for other then they win init?
I voted other in the parliamentary thing but but the thieving, lying, fiddling, selfish party won instead.

You me and the other 63.1%

Mmmm! like most I've got a selection, Record, Ashley Isles, Hamlet, Crown, B&D lawnmower blade, aka thin parting tool, Rutlands, a couple I got with my first lathe unbranded, a reshaped screwdriver, a cheapo set which will be reshaped for those odd little unusual jobs, but like has been said non are any good unless sharp. I've improved my sharpening but would love to learn how to be better at it, then I think my turning skills may be that bit better.

I probably use the Record ones the most.

Use whatever I get my hands on. Got a couple of crown bowl gouges, record roughing gouges, some henry taylor spindle gouges and scrapers. I have a local 2nd hand tool shop that alwas has a few bits pop up here and there. a lot of them seem to be rehandled, so unsure of their original manufacturer
