Ray,

I hope you don't - it's NEVER happened to me before. My view is that even with having to pay shipping, buying from Timberbits is still far cheaper than dealing with most British companies - which makes the extended wait worthwhile.

no doubt it will be appraised when i come to need some more kits. I am trying to restrict the kits that I buy, because the different options become bewildering if you have a couple or 3 platings, roller balls and fountain pens and a couple of different kits. that is before you add the blank. Sometimes I think, you can offer too much choice! So for now, I am using up what I have which are a mixture of timberbits kits and Dan's kits.

$8 probably isnt that much more than I have just paid for a £30 order from the turners workshop, so although annoying, probably isn't a deal breaker.

To anyone who receives orders from Timberbits - please let us know if you have had to pay anything other than the shipping charge - such as Import Duty, handling charges, etc. etc. If getting stuff from Oz ends up as a rip-off like ordering from the U.S. has become then I will rethink where I order from. Thanks!

I have to say from a retailers perspective that this is a breath of fresh air. UK retailers pay VAT and prices are regularly compared with Timberbits (and rightly so). I have always questioned how some of their prices are possible. All this said you cannot fault them on range and service.

It's better to do that by email or PM, you never know who is watching.

For me to buy in small quantities is ludicrous and therefore my shipments are sent by TNT. I then do have to pat VAT, duty and admin fee and now postage.
As an example, my last order of blanks was for 900 of them so I expected to pay it and built the costs into my price. I cannot afford to put small orders in and wait 3 weeks for them.
For those of you putting in small orders that come by China post, with a wait of up to 3 weeks, invariably you wont pay these costs (except for TB's postage) as they always used to put the value at $18 and so no costs become involved.
For over 10 years I had my own company as an importer/wholesaler from all over the world and so any costs to import anything are no shock to me.
Personally I think that at TB's prices, even if you have to pay these costs it still doesn't work out too bad bearing in mind the range, quality and service.
I think that some having bought at trade prices or pretty much trade prices with free postage for a long time forget they are buying at trade and not retail and in some instances whatever price they buy at is never cheap enough.
That's my 2 pennies worth.....:whistling::whistling::whistling:

I haven't used T/B for well over 2 years now I dont like the way fis kits suddenly take a turn for the worst then a mark 2 appears or the same kit improved and given a new name and the price goes up mind I dont buy many kits nowadays and when I do I buy from friendly UK retailers like Dan, Dave and phil and get the quality I want

I haven't used TB for a while, we seem to be able to get good quality, service & improving choice from our local forum dealers, my concern though is that the TB change to no free international shipping may allow for costs to be increased over here.

Timberbits charge of 8 dollars is only about 4 quid can't see the problem with that, seems reasonable to me

More reasonable than most UK suppliers.

Even the express delivery at about £18 isn't that bad when you consider how much can be saved on the kits with the exchange rate the way it is. I'll report back once I've received my latest order which is looking like I'll get charged on. The tracking says Customs Charges Raised and later, more worrying, Revised Customs Charges Raised. I'm expecting about £50 extra :rolling:
