the postage is peanuts but paying duty would be another consideration alltogether

The duty on pen parts is 3.7% - Commodity Code: 9608300000
Vat is 20%

Vat is charged on:
Cost of the products
Shipping costs (postage)
Duty

Below is copy from customs website:

Customs Duty

You’ll be charged Customs Duty on gifts and other goods sent from outside the EU if they’re above a certain value, unless the duty comes to less than £9.

The value includes:

the price paid for the goods
postage, packaging and insurance

Type and value of goods Customs Duty
Anything under £135 No charge
Gifts worth £135-£630 2.5%, but rates are lower for some goods - call the helpline
Gifts above £630 and other goods above £135
The rate depends on the type of goods and where they came from - call the helpline

End product is the VAT at 20% on everything is the one that hurts depending upon value of invoice.

Never had any of that to contend with if I did it would be the first & the last, your post was about postage, compares with uk postage so good value I would say

Reading Daveygee's post am I right in saying that anything below £135 is Tax free and Duty free? If so, then this seems to be the ceiling to aim for, does it not?

Bob.

Well I guess I won't be buying from TB again, just stung for £61 tax on an order for £192. It only adds about 95p per kit but for the likes of streamline I may as have bought them from Dan, so more orders could be coming his way

Seems an excessive amount on an order of that amount?

At least you have a postal service.
Here it can 6 weeks to go 100km if is is not stolen or "lost".
Courier companies are the way to go here now. Cost more (50 to 100%) but you will get your parcel within 2 days. Even for those in the rural areas like me.
Government departments have a unique knack of screwing thing up. All to the benefit of the private sector.

Bloody hell, Ray, what an absolute effing rip-off!!!

In view of what's been written before your post do you think that a smaller order would have escaped additional charges (other than the price of the goods?)

If you had split it into about 4 orders, the postage would have been 20$ (£9.00) and you most likely would not have had those charges, okay it would have taken a bit longer to arrive.

Unless everyone does what Peter suggests, i can see T/B sales into the UK fall drastically ..

It just depends as always on how many kits are ordered and which kits. Cheaper kits can mostly be bought at the same price here, taking into account the import duty and postage. However, if anyone is after kits like Baron, Sedona, Pristina may well still work out cheaper in spite of the extra costs. I like the bolt action and it has proved popular with my customers but I haven't thus far found them from a UK supplier for anything like the price of TB, and in particular in trivalent chrome. I'll give them another look when I need more kits and work it out

I haven't used T/B for well over 2 years now I dont like the way fis kits suddenly take a turn for the worst then a mark 2 appears or the same kit improved and given a new name and the price goes up mind I dont buy many kits nowadays and when I do I buy from friendly UK retailers like Dan, Dave and phil and get the quality I want

I have been thinking for sometime about changing my supplier from TB to others.
Its not only the postage they are now charging and import duty its every time I want a kit most are sold out and seems ages before they replenish their stock.
Names such as Dan, Dave and Phil are just names to me and possibly to others. Could more information be given about their pens with web sites etc together with any additional sellers.

It is also the reason why some are now looking closer to home again.
