I like the idea of Master & Commander that were suggested earlier

I have noticed that all the legend titles seem a little on the masculine side maybe we could also have Diva but the guys will have to get more in touch with their feminine side whilst they go through their Diva stage

We have all done that when we went pink LOL especially pink panther Ed :funny::funny::funny::funny:

As Woody says Billy, Pink is used at a stage to test the inner feelings of the members, and to be honest, it is proven that the time scale getting off this colour is the fastest ..

What about 'Head Turner' or 'Turner Round' ?
I've seen the rankings but what are the thresholds for moving up the rankings?

I will post these up my friend once we finalise the rankings ..

Jim I sincerely suggest alongside my name the title member is sufficient, no count is necessary at all.

Kind regards Peter.

I rather tend to agree with Peter. The point of counting the number of posts always escaped me on this and other forums. The quality of someone's contribution to the forum is not necessarily proportional to the quantity of posts.

Just a thought.

Reading that last post again I thought I had better add that I don't mean to be critical of anyone or their contribution to the forum, it just seems silly to me that a ranking system should be based purely on the number of posts.

If we need a ranking system at all, and that is debateable in itself, surely it should be based not on the number of posts alone but should perhaps take into account the number of "thanks" and "likes" which would give a better indication of someones contribution.

Another thing is linking the ranks to turning. Using the WWI forum as an example rather than this one, if someone like Richard Raffan joined the WWI he would be given the title "apprentice" whereas someone who has only ever turned a light pull but has made 1000 posts saying "Very nice
smiley32.gif
smiley32.gif
" would be classed as a veteran craftsman. That seems perverse to me.

Start all that shit again and I am out of here.
It's a bit of fun for us hobbiest's let's keep it that way.
This is much more than just a turners forum, it's a place where friends meet and enjoy some banter.

I think you have hit it on the head with your Richard Raffan quote. Maybe it would be better to dispense with the ranking system !!!!!
I am at the top end of the ranking system but I wouldn't class myself as top turner. I use the forum to learn and to have a bit of banter with like minded people !!!

It's a bit of fun for F's sake take away the fun element and your board will die.
We like to see newbies no matter what name or title they have.
They soon earn there own title on here don't they Plonker Chairman, Doc Paul, dad, Granddad etc.

I agree the ranking system is just a bit of fun it also adds privileges like more pm storing space

Sorry if I am not reading this right but I see that as a ranking system too.
Who the hell is Richard Raffan that he wouldn't be called a plonker if he came here.
Blimey he's only a geezer the same as the rest of us, I don't want to shatter illusions but there are no gods (only Woody).

I'm with Grump, this is a bit of fun. I was looking at this forum for quite some time before joining and the main reason was the fact that it looked like everyone got on and had a laugh. It's a good place for us hobby turners to share and learn a bit. There are other forums that take themselves too seriously in my opinion. If we are going to have rankings, lets have daft one's. Life's too short eh !
