I just wondered if any of our suppliers sell spare parts for kits not tubes but the kit bits themselves. The reason I ask I have screwed up a couple of Mistrals that went wrong and trying to correct I damaged some of the pen components.
I also have a bag full of TM kits bits that did not go well...
You won't have failed to notice that lately, I've not had a great deal of time to administer Pen of the Week, so going forward, at least for the present, I'm going to select a pen for the Forum's cover photo from those recently posted.
I've uploaded a new cover photo, by Bill Mooney which you...
Can anyone tell me if such a thing as a ladies fountain pen exists?
On my Christmas prezzie list two ladies, Cathy and Ellie, both like fountain pens but have small hands so the likes of the Churchill are no use to them.
Due to a blank splitting whilst turning it today I did something that I really should not make a habit of, at least, that is, according to Mrs G.
I started thinking ..............
Amongst the many things I was thinking about, one thing in particular stuck in my mind.
No doubt thousands of pen...
I just wondered were you guys sourced your pen blanks both Wood and Acrylics.
My favourites are acrylics I do wood but not very often.
If I am looking for Blanks I visit:
Pam Harris,s etsy store.
I am a big fan of Conway Stuart Blanks.
Beufort Ink they have a good selection of Ebonite that I...
If you make a slimline pen (for example) and put it up for sale on a website do you have to call it a "Slimline"? or can you call it anything you want?
I believe this could be a one off of this pen made from RRS DISCOVERY 1901 wood. (If anyone believes differently please let me know.). Like I say the wood used is reclaimed wood from RRS Discovery and made with an Antique Gold Ayres Pen Kit. I am wondering if I should keep it or sell it. As far...
Lots of lessons learnt again with this one, the main one being read the instructions before starting.
If you don't have the instructions (as was my case) then find them on the interweb thingy and print them off.
First time I have done this type of pen and I have actually managed to split it...
Actually got the finish correct with this pen I followed Phil Dart Melamine tutorial and it worked out OK.
Downside with this pen is that white glue is showing between the layers, this appeared whilst turning and I do not know how to get rid/hide it.
Got the blank from Mark flexi Cheers...
This has to be my best pen to date.
We see a lot where the comments are "The Photo does not do it justice" and I can safely say this is one of those moments
I absolutely adore this pen even though the finish is only at 90% where it should be (in my opinion, although it may be at 100 %...
I was given so pear wood by friends - 'Could you make a pen out of this?'
From this
to this
I'm off to visit them soon & I know they have a good supply of pear so I'm going to blag some!
With pen blanks not giving tons of shavings is it OK to use shavings from a different type of wood?
In other words If I am doing an oak pen can I mix the shavings with walnut or beach when burnishing?
I have finally made a pen that I sort of like.
I say sort of because it has lines showing. I seem to be going great guns then I go onto the 320 grit sanding and lines just appear out of the blue, Do I go back to the 220 grit to try and get rid of them or start again from the 120 grit? regardless...
Since starting out making pens I have never really made any money. I have made quite a few pens now and people are aware I am a pen maker.
I was recently asked by a business man to make him 10 pens to hand out to his special customers. So I did while discussing delivery with him another Guy...
I almost did not manage to do this pen due to the blank breaking, Well I say breaking but I think exploding would be a better description.
Not sure what the wood was but it was very "powdery" in that it was only giving off dust and not ribbons.
Once that happened I decided to use one of the oak...
Third times the charm as folks say.
After twice messing up I finally tried my third attempt to get this pen right.
The main difference between this one and the other 2 is that I used bushes this time and made sure I did not press the keyring into the tube :rolling:
I tried using veneered wood...
