Always seem to be playing with Acrylics recently so made a change to turn some wood.
I have no idea what wood it is though, I have some odd blanks in my cupboard and two of them looked really nice so turned them and this is the end result :thinks:

Afternoon all,
Well here's the thing. In October 17 my friendly tree chap drop off this huge example of a eucalyptus tree - the Tasmanian Cider Gum tree is one of the few that grow well in the UK. The big bits must be about 3 foot in diameter. I rough turned about 40 bowls, vases, platters and...
A couple of pens that I've just turned and put together. Both are from that nice range of polyester blanks that Paul at Pen Blanks and Moulds has recently put up on his site. They need to be turned with care but they do finish really nicely.
First a 'Pearl Swirl' on a gold and gunmetal Sirocco...
Well turned this today again not a fantastic blank but I turned it a lot faster than my previous ones.
Didn't crater as much but still sanded wet from 180 through the wet n dry grades and finished with micro mesh and buffed with blue towel.
I have a few of these kits that I want to get turned and out of the way, so I can move on to some nicer kits. I won't post them all on here and bore the pants off you all, but I quite liked the way this one turned out. It's an antique bronze kit, turned with spalted beech, with just a couple...

Checked the plug was in properly, the inverter showed it was doing 2300 rpm's, fight my way through the dust and cobwebs and open the door where the motor is, the belt was off...
A bit later than I planned on posting these, as I turned them about two weeks ago from some small blanks made from the leftover resin from a few new slab casts I made for my website! But with last week being half term we decided last minute to go away for a few days, then our daughter has been...
We'll back in the shed and turned my second pen.
Remembered to trim blanks before starting to turn !!
Used a couple of costs of thin CA followed by a few coats of super thin CA and wet sanded for longer came out good I think, even used it for a birthday present!!
Firstly thanks to Eamonn for the box
but what's inside?
Two Mistrals. One FP and one RB.
Turned in bloodwood which really isn't as red as I was hoping but still looks lovely!
This is a Taylors Mirfield Shakespeare Rollerball in Rib Fruited Mallee.
First Shakespeare for me. I deeply love this kit, so beautifully engineered.
I turned this parallel, simple cylinders, just to showcase the wood.
The Mallee was lovely to turn, very dense and fine. No stain on the wood...
We went on 2 weeksholiday to Llandudno but the second week I was asked to teach 2 blind members to turn. They have both had experience before they lost their site & are both in their middle 80s.
George hasn’t turned for 11 years & Roy hasn’t turned for 3 years. I have also taught Philippe, one...
