I’m sure that it has come up before but I’m interested in your views on a wax finish on pens. I notice that a few here use a wax finish on their pens, I assume sanding sealer and then wax to a nice sheen. I personally don’t use wax alone as I wouldn’t have thought it would be hard wearing enough...
I was chatting to someone a few weeks ago and they told me that they always wax a pen regardless of the finish (C.A, melamine etc) or if it is Acrylic or wood.
Since then it has been revolving around my head as to why they would do that.
I was going to ask on here but feel you may all be tiring...
I appreciate this has been discussed many times before but there is currently an interesting dialogue on The International Association of Penturners members forum about pen finishing. I take this to be a concern with wood rather than acrylics as using one of the proprietary polishes on plastic...
I'm thinking of turning my first bowl tomorrow on a blank that is cut as a square lump of wood so it will be end grain bowl.
Maybe not the ideal wood to start my adventure in bowl turning but I have 6 or 7 lumps of this wood so I have a lot to practice pieces to run through.

I'm looking at colouring some maple wood blank would you think airbrushing acrylic ink would be suitable for this purpose I only ask as I have lots of airbrushing ink ??
I tried to use Hampshire wax but put the sanding sealer on before the wax and it didn't work silly me I should have done my...

As the title suggests I'm in two minds of what to do.
lets start at the beginning I have what I believe is oak bur that I started to turn with the vision of mixing some colour into some two part epoxy to fill in the gaps in the wood.
BUT after turning to within mm's of the bushings I only...
Not a new piece but a repair and reposition of the turned spiral form on the plinth.
The spiral is yew and a black ebonising spray inside finished with Acrylis sander sealer and Satin Lacquer and a final polish with wax. The plinth was cut and burnt before adding liming wax and again finished...
Had a couple of days from model making and turned an Ash bowl and coloured with spirit stain and finished with acrylic S/S and wood wax. The second item was a piece that I rough turned back in 2016 and decided to finish I believe it is Maple, Decided to leave this one natural and just finished...
I placed an order last week and with that order i got a free stick of Hut PPP wax. So this is my first waxed pen.
Am happy with the shape and like the satin feel of the wax, but my research says that the finish won’t last long.
