The 2 gallon kit will keep you going for a while.

Peter

I have ordered a couple of the smaller 16 oz kits Peter as it is my first attempt. I will see how I go on with it. I don't intend doing any casting in a big way I would just like to have a go at doing a few specials. No idea what yet ? I have sent for some of the resin saver moulds from Timberbits they were quite expensive for what they are but it will save me a lot of messing around making moulds. Time will tell, you might see a pressure pot and casting gear up for sale if I can't get on with it, who knows, but I must have a try if only to get it out of my system. I don't intend doing any of the multi coloured stuff as Brody can supply me with his excellent blanks that are very reasonably priced and top quality.

Out of stock it says ! :whistling:

They definitely have it in stock Phil. I got an email from them yesterday saying it was back in stock and placed an order with them.

They may not have updated the site yet. If you go into the shop and try and place an order if they are out of stock it will come up on your order.

Just be careful with the pressure when you use the resin saver molds as too much pressure and there are reports of the resin being forced into the tubes.

I've only had a limited experience so far Vic and so far I've used mostly Alumilite and last night tried FC6600 to see what the difference is. I've used a block mould and resin saver moulds and have had good results with the resin saver and pressurise them to 60psi (4bar) without any problems, just make sure the plugs are in properly. The mould shouldn't contain any gas and therefore won't be able to be compressed and if the plugs are in properly you'll be fine.

On the pressure side of it...

pressurising to 1 bar (15psi)(30' in the water) a bubble will be halved in size
pressurising to 3 bar (45psi)(90' in the water) a bubble will be quarter the size
pressurising to 7 bar (105psi)(210' in the water) a bubble would be an eighth the size

The pressures / depths are roughly right but gives you an idea and the biggest change is down to 15psi. If you decide to stick at 40psi with Alumilite then I think you will be fine as it looks like the bubbles mostly disappear on their own anyway. Yesterday I put the cup of mixed resin in the vacuum chamber before pouring it and the majority of bubbles had gone although more are added on pouring of course.

I look forward to seeing your results.

Peter I won't go more than 40 PSI and see what happens

Vic

Have a look at this thread on IAP, the guy used 25psi and it still flooded the tubes. If you can fill the tubes with blu-tac or similar then you cut down the amount of air in the tubes, just leave space at the ends of the tubes for the plugs to fit.

Whatever you use in the mix or on the tubes, make sure it is completely dry. You could try dried seeds, I have used chilli pepper seeds and fennel seeds, by using CA on the tubes and rolling the tubes in the seeds. Look forward to seeing what you make.

Peters link shows that its not about how much pressure you put in as it happened at 65psi and 25psi its about sealing up the tubes and preventing the resin going into voids, in fact if you put in 1psi and there is a gap, you will fill the tubes. What is needed is an engineer to design a cheap expandable plug but I make sure the plugs are in properly and haven't had a problem.

I Haven't tried it yet but also as Peter says adding something with depth would be very impressive as its magnified when you turn it and it bursts out. I'm also having a play with water slide decals that seem to project the image onto the outside of the blank but I haven't got it quite right yet and having wrecked several am getting close to getting it right.
