Thanks for your comments Peter. The ring you see is a symptom of a poor photograph. There is a sprung gasket which is compressed between the cap finial and the cap tube, the concept being the same as most other FP/RB kits. The gasket is actually quite substantial, but I agree, in the photo is doesn't look it. Does that answer the question?

Sure does thanks Phil.

A postable pen has a thread on the finial on the barrel at the opposite end to the nib, so that the cap can be screwed on to it whilst you're writing. A non-postable pen doesn't have that thread, so the cap is placed in the desk whilst you're writing.

Pens with shorter barrels and those that are nib heavy often require the extra length of the cap otherwise they're too short in the palm or to give a bit of ballast. The disadvantage is that it often makes the pen top heavy whilst in use. The mistral has a long nib barrel to start with, and is designed to balance nicely in the hand without the cap.

Does that make sense John?

Perfect sense, thanks Phil.

These look an excellent development Phil and I look forward to them becoming available, I'm sure these will fit nicely in with other ranges that we do :thumbs:

The timescale for the ballpoint and pencil will be probably another 4 to 6 weeks on top of the FP and RB. I haven't yet received the prototype samples let alone the finished samples.

Part of my brief to myself for the BP and especially the pencil, was to improve on the terrible mechanisms that come out of Taiwan and China with many other pen and pencil kits, and consequently they are being made to a completely different design from high quality materials in Europe, not the far east.

This is excellent news. My customer who wants a high quality fountain pen, ballpoint and pencil set came to see me this morning. I explained to her the benefits of waiting for the Mistral set to become available and she is willing to wait. I think she may be the first of many customers I have for this range.
