I looked up a picture of Polish and you're right for sure Woody. From now on I'm going to forget ca and use polish.

I chose this one...

As usual Woody you are the voice of reason and common sense (I even agree about the polish if it looks like the one Paul posted).

Just follow the advice in the Safety Data Sheet that Brian posted a link to.

Of course it makes sense to take precautions whether using ca or abusing Polish.
Even the short term implications can be very upsetting init?

I always use a mask when applying CA. 1 its better to be safe than sorry 2. "Her indoors" cant understand me when I have the mask on, all she' hears is Darth Vader breathing
As for polish, we have some very nice polish around here. Luckily "Her indoors" hasn't seen me eyeing any of it up, yet

I am going on a small search to show my extraction for very fine dust and CA fumes. What prompted this was I used to have it way above the lathe thought came why up there now right where I need it over the lathe.

Before and after the atmosphere fine dust unit etc.

Peter.

Screwfix also do a wide variety, just make sure you get a P3 rated one..

I agree with that Walter, but the correct one is FFP3, manufacturers use the term P3 in the title description doesn't mean it's a FFP3 mask.

I got one of these 3M 7523M Reusable Premium Single Half Mask with A2P3 Filter: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools and it does a great job. Doesn't stop the fumes from nipping my eyes occasionally, but it certainly removes the breathing issues. Also stops dust!

The mask you identify in the link is not a FFP3 mask, so it's low protection, we should be using the highest possible. So This one in my opinion is not the best protection.

It clearly states in the product description that the box contains FFP 1 masks.

I agree with that Walter, but the correct one is FFP3, manufacturers use the term P3 in the title description doesn't mean it's a FFP3 mask.

I have done some research Eamonn and it seems we are both providing information that is at best incomplete and at worst incorrect. I have read the information in the link you provided and to quote from it:

"FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3 are designed to filter out dust only. They must not be used where there is an oxygen-deficient atmosphere or harmful gases and vapours."

From further research on the HSE website it seems an FFP3 rated filter will, at best, provide limited protection and what is required is a gas and vapour rated filter. These will not normally also protect against dust unless specified. To further complicate matters and to quote the HSE document below: "Filters are available for situations where protection is needed against both particles and specific gases or vapours. This type of filter will carry markings for particles and vapours, eg A2P3"

See Appendix 1 (pp 28 et seq) of the HSE document Respiratory protective equipment at work. A practical guide

Having said all of that 99% of pen makers will no doubt carry on regardless with no protection at all but at least I can now safely say I am not misleading anyone.
