I have that article stuck on the inside of one of our kitchen cupboards.
I dont understand why so many retailers sell the majority of goods with a one year warrenty and are allowed to get away with it

Something good to come out of Europe - all goods are actually covered by a two year warranty thanks to European law.

Two-year warranty loophole (EU law) | This is Money

Good luck!

Thanks for that Andy, that'a one of the articles I was thinking of in my original post but for the life of me didn't know where I had had read it or if it is fact.
We have a guy on three counties radio does a consumer program and my Drain always listens when she at home, I picked a lot from hi too.
Even after two years something can be done still.
I had a case a few years ago with my £500 glasses I got conned into buying by the opticians, the Hugo Boss frames lasted to end of one years warranty and decided to fail on me.
Optician refused to do anything, a solicitor made him do something, same again a year later, and the very same again yet another year later, by which time I needed stronger glasses and he tried to charge another £500.
My original frames were now obsolete according to him I have to have these very nice Gucci frames at the same value, showed the invoice to solicitor who instructed me not to pay the full value but make a offer.
I offered and paid £50 off the total and told the optician to take the matter up with my solicitor, he is no longer my optician nor is he in business I dunno what else he was being chased for but it weren't good and I heard no more of him.

Edit: Yes Don I was put on to him via CAB who were excellent.

That's bad, but i wouldn't bother with the local rag or radio, the case isn't big enough for them to take it on board .. But it is good that we all see this, sadly at someones expense, but it will warn others of how Charnwood works ..

Everyone thinks that the 1 year guarantee is sacrosanct, it isn't in the UK there is a 6 year guarantee that manufacturers try to forget about. If you have paid £10 for a kettle you are not going to get a new kettle after a few years, but when you have paid a few hundred pounds upwards the 6 year expected life of a product will kick in. Just don't take no for an answer.

That looks like as said, your contract is with the retailer who is obligated to to abide by the laws of the land.
Sale of goods act applies to the seller not the manufacturer who has another set of regulations to comply with.
Progress though at least you have a reply.
