It's not just the photo that's crap. look closely at the fit, it is, for want of a better word, shite. What's more the shaping is inconsistent and in my opinion too "fat".

If you make decent pens, this fellow is not in competition with you.

He imports it himself, according to the ad, from the area around Valencia.

Vic

Kit from TB - £3.21
Olive wood blank (he sells 10 for £6) - 60p

Consumables:
Sanding sealer & Friction polish, 500ml of each for £26,assuming you could get 200 pens out of 500ml -13p
Sandpaper, £12 for 1/2 meter of every grit, say he uses 5 cm of each grit and he could get 5 pens out of it before throwing it- 24p

Postage and packing,call £1.50?

He's already at £5.68 without overheads and tool wear, initial outlays etc.

Granted, the prices I listed were for a hobby turner and not someone buying in bulk, etc.

Take a guess
If he's selling blanks for 60p he's buying them for less, in bulk his kits are probably not much over £2 but allowing £3 for both, add £2 on for p+p, finish etc he could be making £2.50 a pen.
If he can do 4 an hour that's £10 an hour.

Now it ain't the way I'd want to earn my money, but if it's the only he can earn some money then good luck to him, it wouldn't be the market I'd want but then again he may well have found a niche :nooidea:

He might not care about making money, covering costs is enough for some to enjoy their hobby.

Grump hit the nail on the head,
I spoken to people at craft shows, mens sheds down south, they are on limited, fixed incomes. They are happy to sell for cost to make enough money to be able to buy more supply's, if they don't do this there hobby and enjoyment is finished, then they proberly have sit inside listening to there wife whinging. :sob:

The Aussie old age pension is sweet bugger all.

Just had a look at his sales and feedback on eBay. Everybody seems happy with what they are buying his feedback is all positive.

If he is a hobbyist just wanting to get his money back to replenish his stock then he seems to be doing fine .

Good luck to him if that's what he enjoys.
