wait
i think may be worth a go tbh
at least it may tie up a few bushes \ bushings to save a new turner buying bushes they already have
and be a quick reference for tube sizes \ drill sizes

There you go a good example, where were bushes mentioned until now?
How many measurements do you want from them?

Are you trying to tell us Brian that our Chinese friends are not as honourable as we think they are, when it comes to accuracy of their measuring :thinks::thinks::thinks:

No Billy, I am sure they are as capable as any in their measuring, What I am saying is if it fits they will use it.
If it nearly fits they will sell it to us to use.

Be wary of drill measurements when things are critical I buy drills measured by me at the dealers want a shock made in the UK China Australia USA etc best brands same old variations, some of my brasses, kits etc go back twenty to thirty years I never date when I buy them after all this is my hobby have fun your way.

The only time I have had real success was recently with a local bloke who made me some Mandrel Savers over the moon with the quality and measurements when I get back into the swing of pens I will comment further. also my purchase of the VL150 etc magnificent quality as my old man used to say what do you want for fourpence Crayfish?

Delerious about my pen blanks hardly know where to start what with the sun reestablishing SPRING is here.

Kind regards Peter.

I had, and probably still do somewhere, have a spreadsheet of all the timberbits kits, tube sizes, bushes, etc etc.

Spent ages compiling it and then after a year why I bothered. Never used it and once the brain had memorised all the tube sizes can't think of when I would need it now.

Is this any HELP Peter

That's a great find, I am sure it will be a great help for some. For me I wanted tube diameters primarily, ID and OT, but thought it might be helpful to collect all the other relevant data as well, but it appears it wouldn't be of use to anyone so I can't waste the time. I will just measure tubes as I get them and see if it's of use.

Its a shame there's no great take up on the offer / idea, I will end up doing one myself for the specific kits I use, I'm sure it will come in handy above my work bench :rolling::rolling::rolling:

How do you think it will come in handy? I am not being awkward I really would like people's take on how they would find it useful?

Peter, I am still fairly new to making the pens although I can generally remember how to put them together but I cant remember the drill sizes, a quick look on the chart would tell me the answer. I may also include sizes or drawing of the turned pen outer diameters a simple example may be the Sierra with a centre pen diameter of 12.6 mm giving me the shape I want and uniformity.

I know there are issues with different kit manufactures but these can be incorporated (if you use different ones) you can include other outer diameters eg again for Sierra 14.6 mm for a thicker pen.

I could check if it uses the same tube and bushes as anything I have already turned

Could you? The bushes could easily have the same internal tube diameter but different external bush diameter and this collation doesn't contain the bush data.

The collation I proposed, did have it.

a quick look on the chart would tell me the answer

So would a quick look at a measuring instrument.

I have a full blown computer system in my shed but not everybody does.

So they are indoors looking at the chart and need to transfer this information to the shed at the end of the garden.
Write it down, print it or rely on memory.
I have Sierra kits in 3 different diameters, I dunno which one I will pick up till it comes out.
It is still easier for me to select my kit and measure it as I turn, a great idea but impractical for me.

Dragons Den sorry I am out.

Apologies young sir I just reread it and you are quite right it did.

I shall shut my big fat gob on this subject from here on in init?

It's always good to have different views as we don't all see the pitfalls in doing something straight off:thumbs:
