It's always good to have different views as we don't all see the pitfalls in doing something straight off:thumbs:

OK I don't need prompting to open it again, if you decide to go ahead with a database then here is my suggestion.

Add another cell or two and give a list of suppliers for each size.
In the event of a damaged tube / bush etc the damaged can look at the screen and not only know what size they require but also where to get it init?

We used to have a great little model shop in the old town which sold all manner of things including brass tubes in metric and imperial sizes.
I have a vast stock of his various sized tubes, enough to last me out I am sure so I don't need to buy tubes any more I simply measure find and cut init?
The use of bushes is secondary to me so not an issue either, I don't buy kits unless I have to so I can't really say I will use the database.

Not everybody is in the same situation as me and it may be the best thing since Lord Woody joined the forums.
I just thought sourcing the material is as good as knowing what to source, like I said earlier where to stop init?

Nuff gob from me for now.

As I have said before I needed to find a specific tube size and I know I could buy it online, but I thought if I have a kit with that tube size (dia.) then I could use that instead of having to buy a length. When I looked at the IAP pdf it wasn't much use to me as most of the kits are not available here so I doubt I would have one even if it has the size I needed, which is what got me thinking about making a database that would be relevant to the UK available kits. It was only when you pointed out the pitfalls that I thought it would be too much effort to collate for so little return. If it is only useful to a handful of people once or twice in a blue moon then there really is no need for it. I would love a good reason to produce it, but apart from what I needed it for I can't see any, besides which I would probably have to learn to use Excel which I have successfully dodged all my life:funny:

We have a database expert on the forums in the shape of our very own Paul M init?

I could knock up a entry only, sql, or dbase, and host it so members could add the information themselves as they find it.
That could be queried by anyone at any time, no need for a spreadsheet simply create the required fields and present them in pretty boxes.

But so could anyone else and I wouldn't want to deprive you of your project so I won't bother.

I am pleased to be deprived of the project, thank you for taking up the mantle, I am sure your name will be revered for years to come, well done that man :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Indeed it would or even tables in a word document.
That does make a lot of work for one person collating and maintaining it for all to see.
Web based database would be self maintaining to a degree and updated by people who need to use it by entering their new found data.
Just thinking out loud again, not that I want to do it.

I believe that was the measurement I quoted let me see if I can find an copy it.

Ear yar.

It would be interesting to see some of the results of peoples measurements.
And probably very funny to read the ensuing arguments over 0.02 of an inch or mm.

I'm going down the shed to make a pen having read all the above, I will measure my own tubes & drill bits for now :whistling::whistling::whistling:

Will look back later to see if progress is being made on format etc :thinks::thinks:

An excellent debate :thumbs::thumbs:
