    Beech Platter

THis is my first effort in wood colouring so I thought I would aim for something simple. I bought a 12 x 2 blank from Axminster. It sat in the workshop for weeks before I could start it. When I finally started it I attached the face plate but again had to put it to one side as time was limited...

    Back in the saddle

These are the first pens I’ve made since November, & I enjoyed getting back in the saddle. I sneaked an olive pen in with the acrylics.

    An Ash platter

Nice piece of Ash, turned a few weeks ago, finished with oil. Diameter is 195mm, 30mm internal depth. Split runs through to the back and is just visible in the bottom of the bowl. Must have been a very stressed tree! As always, C&C please. Thanks, Chriscb

    My story of woe

Not sure if you noticed but I have been absent from the forum for a few days. What happened is that week before last I did not feel too good and thought it would blow over as many of these bugs seem to come and go which kept me out of the workshop. Anyway, last week still not feeling very well...

    Hollow form

Glad to have my lathe back up and running, it seems strange as I knew by the sound how it was behaving but now the motor is so quiet. Started out with a very uninteresting piece of wood and was going to use black stain to enhance the grain that is there but did not get the desired effect so went...

    Yet another steep learning curve

Whilst I was banned woodworking etc following a heart op I spent many hours flat on my back surfing the net and you tube and decided that once I got back in the workshop I would have a go at bandsaw boxes. (Also I was getting bored with pens … Heresy I know). So in order of learning and many...

    So much for moving....

Well got informed last night that the seller (whose house we were buying) has decided to accept a MUCH higher offer and has now rejected our :vangry::vangry: I think the term is “Gazumped” :sob: Took us 2 years to find a place that ticked all the boxes and suitable for the wife (due to illness)...

    Christmas present

I spent a couple of hours in the shed on Christmas Eve and made myself an Inertia sander. I bought the head from Simon Hope a while back and had already made a straight handle for it. I then saw an angled version on the net I liked so thought I’d make one.

    Christmas gifts

A while back I made a pen from rare timber for a friend in exchange for Cephalotus plant and an Orchid. The guy asked me to make three more pens, loved my circuit board one I had shown him a picture of. His father and two brothers are IT Specialists. So this one in upgrade Gold with two more...

    CARISSA lanceolata

Every now and again I get to cut across the grain with this timber. Every piece I have is eaten down the centre by Termites. Way back it became a very favourite timber to seek out and use. Happy with this one. Peter.

    Yet more wood

Yet more wood having a great month for collecting. I think I am becoming a wood hoarder. I went out today and looked at the yew log I mentioned the other day which is 12foot but only came back with this pile. I can hear you all saying well what happened to the log well that one and a shorter...

    Pen return

Ive had my first customer message me with a problem with their pen and I have made and sold many - its a TM Kappa and it appears the threaded piece which is press fitted into the brass tube into which the section threads has come out of the brass tube. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I...

    Chess Themed Shakespeare

Well it's been a while since I've been in the garage, what with the leaking roof that was only recently resolved by the landlady and other things getting in the way. I think said landlady felt a bit bad at how long it's take to repair the roof and allow me to get back in there, it was dripping...

Hello to all, It has been along time since I am absent in the forum because of health. Indeed, since January I have of to undergo 2 operations what obliged me the inactivity during several weeks. I soon hope to have finished with it so that I can take back my activities in the workshop. Hoping...

    Damn, Damn, Damn.

I turned my lathe on for the first time in a looooooong time, the spindle move about 1/8 of a turn and stopped. Checked the plug was in properly, the inverter showed it was doing 2300 rpm's, fight my way through the dust and cobwebs and open the door where the motor is, the belt was off...
