    Salad bowl

I have just started to make a salad bowl, its made up of three types of wood, Ash, Oak (i think) and a dark wood which i do not have any idea as to what it is. I have glues these together using a mix of Titebond wood glue and Gorilla glue. It has really gone off well. I have noticed that the two...

    Bowl done a wobbly

I was turning a piece of Rowan that has a fair amount of rot in it, it also has some small cracks as well. I 'treated' the rot and cracks to three sessions of CA and left it to go off. While it was mounted on the chuck screw and only the outside finished, it ran true. I swapped it round and held...

    A segmented bowl ?

I had some bits of timber left over from making our dining room table, so i cut and glued them up for a bowl. It seemed ok but now i'm not sure if it's a bowler hat or a piddle pot. It's mahogany and oak ( i think) Don't know why the pictures they came out that way as the originals are not...

    Help with remounting a bowl

I have been given a bowl by a friend who's uncle had started turning it and then sadly passed away so Ive been asked if I can finish it. Problem is Im not sure how best to remount it on the lathe? The bowl is mahogany (heavy) and is approx 12" diameter. There has been a shallow recess cut in...

    Question

I have a chuck with 'std' jaws that cover a range from about 42mm to 60mm. My lathe swings 6 inches making a 12 diameter bowl in theory. My question is are my jaws man enough to hand on to a bowl that size. I have one on the go at the moment and it's around 10 inches diameter and about 4 1/2...

To cook or not to cook

I was wondering what the consensus is on micro waving wood here. I have only been turning a short while as you know, so i don't have a store of wood air drying for a few years like i know some of you have. I have bought some wood but that seems to be cheating to me not to mention the cost at...
