    My latest bowl blanks

I am quite sad that this 300 year old oak tree in the village has just been felled by the local council as it was diseased. :sob: I have taken quite a few pieces although a lot would test my lathe to destruction. The stump is about six feet in diameter.

    Sapele bowl

So, after leaving the cracked Oak blank to one side, I turned this small bowl (about 8" diameter) for my daughter-in-law's 30th birthday. Finished with melamine and carnauba wax.

    Small bowl

9" bowl from a lovely Oak blank which Vic gave me when I met him last week. I've not turned many bowls, so I kept it simple and finished it with melamine. I don't know about you folks, but I really enjoy turning stuff when I know who is receiving it. It feels so very personal and "connected"...

    Oak bowls

My first attempts at bowl turning. As I noted on another thread, the oak came from the restoration of our local pub. I have never really got round to trying to turn a bowl before so here are my first attempts. Not sure oak is the wisest timber to try as a first attempt but it seems to have...

Any lefty bowl turners in here

I was making a pen today and i swap from a left hand hold on the chisel to a right hand hold without much trouble, in fact it feels a little more comfortable that holding it left handed. It made me think though, i am going to have a go at bowl making. Turning the base of the bowl will be ok but...
