Terry, couple of pics how I face my blanks the small squared timber with a piece of mandrel fixed in square to the base all round and to the face of the disk against the slide holds inside the blank finished length for other thicker brass slip a sleeve over the mandrel piece quick and easy. The two pair of blanks shown were faced this way then reamed with a step drill to clean and ease the brass internal after gluing as well. Just some ideas the longer chuck then punches exentuate the length to hold flat. Hope this gives some help Peter.:thinks:

Like it, simple but very effective. And most of all the ease of squaring / facing up different sized tubes...
Love it Peter :love_it:
Will be on the case this weekend...... if allowed...:sob:

Peter my ideas are not far away from your design. The main difference with mine is that I want a fixed drill chuck on the sled so that I can put transfer punches in which will correspond to the different sizes of tubes. Thanks for showing !!!

Terry do you have a chuck.

Yes I do Frankie but I need to get a 1/2 UNF bolt to fasten the chuck to a piece of angle iron which will be fastened to a sled. The angle will be parallel to the disc face which will make the chuck at 90 deg to the disc face. By using this method and the use of transfer punches I can square off any size blank just by changing the transfer punch, The sled will slide in the existing recess which means all the disc face can be used if necessary when sanding !!!!
